Build Cook Play
Ladywood in Birmingham is one of the most deprived areas in the UK, 81% of people are living in poverty. A place of obesity and depression. The people of Ladywood lack a sense of ownership over their community.
Build Cook Play is a scheme where the unemployed have an opportunity to learn a trade in building, and while doing so, build their own home, from one of 13 different options. They can also take part in cooking lessons where food is grown on site, and work with the performing arts centre.
Build Cook Play is a phased scheme. The building school is built where tests are taken out, experimental structures are built. While nomadic structures like a funfair and a drive through cinema sit on the site. Slowly the scheme is built, with new workers each time, a public route runs through the site, along the canal front with pubs, cafes restaurants and shopping.
